Activities
Activities High School students are offered a variety of co-curricular activities to support their academic efforts, such as Debate, Robotics, and Mu Alpha Theta. Our debate team is already developing a regional reputation, as our high school team (pictured above) has participated in debate tournaments in Birmingham, Jackson, and New Orleans, capturing both prizes and respect along the way. Our high school students also participate in activities in the visual and performing arts, most notably in CES’s own choir and theater programs. Presently, three of our students are enrolled in afternoon programs at NOCCA. We also pursue associations with other high schools involved in leadership and service organizations, such as Student Council, Key Club, and Louisiana Youth Seminar.
Service Community service is considered to be an integral part of Christian formation at CES. The goals of our service programs are to assist students to recognize and appreciate the blessings God has bestowed upon them, and to develop in them an understanding of their responsibility to recognize and respond to the needs of others. Our Upper School students are required to fulfill twenty hours of community service annually, with five of those hours spent is service on one of the school’s campuses. Juniors and seniors must serve a minimum of ten hours in direct, face-to-face service with the disadvantaged.
Outdoor Education An adjunct program, among many, which sets Christ Episcopal apart from other schools, is our Outdoor Education program. Led by veteran PE instructor, Mrs. Lana Dessauer, the program includes canoe trips, backpacking and camping experiences, major excursions, such as last year’s journey to Yosemite National Park for the high school students, plus in-class preparations and instruction. Within the context of a school culture which values the environment and experiential learning, the Outdoor Education program provides a meaningful and unique experience for CES students.
